Battle of Columbus book to premier at museum

Join Charles Misulia at Port Columbus for the debut of the new book, "Columbus GA 1865: The Last True Battle of the Civil War" on Friday evening, March 12.
This is a free event, open to the public.
This incredibly deeply researched book tells the story of James H. Wilson's cavalry campaign through Alabama and Georgia, leading to the capture and destruction of Columbus, GA. It is published by the University of Alabama Press.
Meet the author and hear a presentation on the book and the research in involved in its making, in the shadow of the CSS Jackson remains, burned by Wilson's raiders after the battle. Copies of the book are available in the museum's store and can be signed by the author that evening.
"Charles started working on this project years ago," said Port Columbus director Bruce Smith, "while he was still working here part time while a student." Smith said this was the most exhaustive work on the battle he had ever seen.
Charles A. Misulia is a Florida attorney and the president of Veteran Arms, LLC, a Georgia-based company specializing in reproductions of historical firearms. Ge has also worked extensively in historical film and is the author/narrator of the Battle of Columbus: Audio Driving Tour and Maps. Charles was also the historical consultant for the film The Last Ditch: The Last Battle of the Civil War.

Welcome To Port Columbus' brand new website!
Now that the naval museum has a new website, we invite your comments on how it is working. The museum staff is very excited about this site and feels that it should serve the website visitor well.
But, this is only the beginning. We are working on the store section of the site right now and hope to have the first e-commerce offerings up on the site by sometime next week, if all goes well. In the meantime, interested persons can always call the museum or email us if you have a particular book or reproduction Civil War naval uniform item you are interested in.
Just call at 1-800-742-2811 or email us at cwnavy@portcolumbus.org.
For now, enjoy and explore the new website. Also, be watching for new articles in our blog here concerning events coming up at the museum including the Pirates of the Chattahoochee and the Civil War Naval History Symposium.
